Permanent Secretaries from Lake Victoria Region Commit to Regional Project on Maritime to Reduce Deaths in Lake Vitoria
Principal Secretaries for L. Victoria Region have committed to fast track the implementation of the Regional Policy on Multi National Lake Victoria Maritime Communication and Transport project.
The project, funded through Africa Development Bank (AfDB) will help address maritime transport and rescue matters in the Lake Victoria.
Implementation of the Project will see a reduction of deaths that occur on the lake daily. It’s estimated that 5000 deaths occur annually in Lake Victoria.
The regional project for Kenya , Tanzania and Uganda is under the Lake Victoria Basin Commission, an organ of East African Community.
Environment and Forestry PS Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed led the Kenyan delegation in signing the document. Permanent Secretaries from Tanzania and Uganda with their technical officers attended the meeting.
