Environment and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobikohas launched the Vanga, Jimbo&Kiwegu (Vijiki) Mangrove Forest Participatory Management Plan &Vanga Blue Forest Project in Vanga Kwale County.

The management plan is designed to ensure the Vanga, Jimbo and Kiwegu mangrove forestsareconserved and utilized sustainably for the benefit of present and future generations.

The 5 year plan will promote community participation and local institutional capacity in conservation and management of the mangrove resource for improved livelihoods and ecological integrity.

It will also ensure sustainable use of mangrove wood and non-wood resources while it manages and protects mangrove areas.

This will enable sustainable provision of ecosystem services like fish habitats, coastal protection, and biodiversity conservation among others.

During the launch the CS was accompanied by the Chief Conservator of Forest Mr Julius Kamau, Kwale County Commissioner Julius KarukuNgumo, Kwale County CEC in charge of Environment Hon. SaumuMahaja, KEMFI Chairman Hon. John Safari among other leaders.
